Department Home Medical Equipment

The majority of the service provided by the Home Medical Equipment staff is centered on the geriatric patient with pulmonary disease.  Services are available to patients of all ages in surrounding counties with varied diagnosis. This service is accredited by the Community Health Accreditation Program.

The HME Department offers a wide variety of medical equipment, products and services.  Home oxygen therapy is the primary service provided.  This service features the Helios liquid oxygen system and also includes the oxygen concentrators, and high-pressure cylinders (“E” “D” and “M6” sizes).  Oxygen equipment provided for an individual patient is determined by their assessed needs and physician’s order. 

HME provides:

• nebulizer compressors for aerosol therapy
• C-PAP
• Bi-PAP equipment
• walkers
• wheelchairs
• canes
• commodes
• hospital beds
• crutches
• special-order medical equipment

Guardian Personal Emergency Response System is also available by contacting the Cardio Department.

All members of the staff providing HME products and services are competent to educate patients on the proper use, care and safety of the equipment.  Education of the patient may be multi-disciplinary in nature, depending upon the equipment used.  For example, Physical Therapy staff may provide education to the patient in the proper use of assistive-devices for ambulation.

Operating hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with HME staff “on call” for after hours, weekends and holidays.
