ENPC (Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course)

The Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) is a two-day program designed to upgrade the knowledge and skills necessary to care for pediatric patients in emergency situations. This is a nationally recognized program which has been highly recommended for nurses who care for children.

Verification will be issued from ENA with successful completion of the course. Verification remains current for 4 years. Classes are held at White County Memorial Hospital in the Hibner Conference Room. Registration and payment must be received by March 19th, 2010. print off brochure and registration form

EMT-B (Emergency Medical Technician - Basic) Class

An EMT-B class will be starting July 16th, 2009 at White County Memorial Hospital. Classes will be held Monday and Thursday 8:00am to 4:30pm with a Saturday class involved. This class will start July 16th with the final class being September 3, 2009.

EMT-B is a career that is growing. JObs are opening in emergency rooms, transfer services, and fire departments to name a few. Clinical hours will be held at Monticello Fire Department and White County Memorial hospital Emergency Department.

Heart Saver CPR/AED

These classes will teach CPR, AED for adults, infants and children.

This class is intended for people working in the daycare field, foster parents, factory, teaching or anybody requiring CPR. Participants should call 574.583.1735 to register. Please inform us of any special needs at the time of registration.

Materials for the class need to be picked up prior to the class. A minimum of 4 participants needs to be registered for the class or it may need to be rescheduled.

The American heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the AHA and fees charged do not represent income to the AHA.

Severe Weather Awareness Seminar for Public Limited seating, need to register

EMA Director Rose Brady and Gordan Cochran from the hospital will talk about what to look and watch for in severe weather and how to set a plan. This is very important as we head into the time of year for severe weather. Having a plan and knowing what to watch for could help save your life. Building Bridges for Breastfeeding Duration / Connecting Bridges to Breastfeeding Success Limited Space

Program topics include: define evidence based practice, identify six steps to assist the dyad, three methods to a correct latch, cause and correction for sore nipples, addressing supplementation, feeding behavior of the late preterm, and four methods of support from WIC. Attendance is appropriate for all hospital personnel who support mothers in the postpartum period. Community partners are encouraged to attend as well as physicians, nurses, social workers and all supportive community partners.

Building Bridges provides education and networking opportunities, evidence based practice in breastfeeding, discharging mothers confident in breastfeeding and building bridges with WIC and community partners. Connecting Bridges is specifically designed for those who have already attended Building Bridges and is designed for the challenge you face.

Jan Barger, RN, MA, IBCLC, Wheaton IL - Jan has worked in maternal child health since 1972 and is an IBCLC in private practice and with Wheaton Pediatrics in the Chicago area. Jan has served on the IBCLC board and exam committee and was the 1990-92 International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA) President. She is the coauthor of Blueprints for Public health Professionals.

Carole Peterson, MS, IBCLC, Fort Wayne IN - Carole was a lactation consultant for a WIC Clinic and chairperson for the Indiana WIC Breastfeeding Committee for 17 years. She is now WIC Regional Center Coordinator in Indiana. Carole is a trainer for the Indiana WIC Peer Counselor Program, and she is chair of the NWA Breastfeeding Committee. She was an associate instructor in child development at Indiana-Purdue University in Fort Wayne, and she is a coauthor of Blueprints for Public Health Professionals.

Infant and Child CPR

The American Heart Association Family and Friends course is taught by a certified CPR instructor. This class is intended for parents and grandparents. The class also includes valuable safety tips and prevention information, like baby proofing your home.

Breastfeeding Basics

Our Lactation Consultant will share the techniques that will get you off to a good start, in this one session class. (Yes, Dads/Partners are encouraged to attend!)

Care Seat Inspections

Parents and Grandparents can schedule an appointment for a free car seat check by a certified child passenger technician. This will insure their infant, toddler or booster seats are correctly installed.

Childbirth Preparation and Newborn Care

This four session class is recommended for all first time moms and dads/partners. The Registered Nurse Instructor will cover the alst trimester of pregnancy, the labor and birth process, pain management options, Lamaze techniques, postpartum care, and care of the newborn. other topics included are Cesarean Section, breast feeding, and what to expect the first month. The forth class will teach you about safety and CPR for infants and children. This includes a tour of the maternity unit.
